Transy wins “Battle of the Bumpers” for 9th straight year

transy plateTransylvania University has taken the AIKCU “Battle of the Bumpers” title for the 9th consecutive year.

The Battle of the Bumpers is a friendly annual competition that pits the 18 AIKCU member institutions against each other to see whose supporters purchase the most Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plates in a calendar year. Ten dollars from the sale of each plate goes back to the featured institution’s general scholarship fund.

Transy alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends purchased 973 plates in 2016, generating nearly $10,000 in student scholarships. Overall, AIKCU distributed more than $50,000 from 2016 license plate sales to campus scholarship funds.

Centre College was second with 881 plates sold. Bellarmine University came in third with 749 and saw the biggest jump over the previous year, with an increase of 22 percent (137 plates).

Sales of Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plates have raised more than $550,000 for student scholarships since the Battle of the Bumpers kicked off in 2003.

Official Kentucky license plates for all 18 AIKCU colleges and universities and the association are available for purchase at Kentucky County Clerks’ offices. Plates cost $44 on initial issue and $31 at renewal, with $10 going to the institution’s general scholarship fund. Plates may be purchased at any Kentucky County Clerk’s office. Transylvania University extends Battle of the Bumpers reign

Transy license plateTransylvania University and its supporters have maintained their lock on the AIKCU “Battle of the Bumpers” license plate sales title for the 8th straight year. The annual friendly competition pits Kentucky’s 19 private nonprofit colleges and universities against each other to see whose supporters purchase the most college-branded Kentucky license plates in a calendar year.

Transylvania supporters purchased 923 plates in calendar 2015, generating $9,230 in scholarships for Transy students. Ten dollars from the sale of each Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plate goes to the featured school’s general scholarship fund.

Overall Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plate sales generated nearly $48,000 for student scholarships in 2015.  After Transylvania, Centre College (811), Bellarmine University (612), and Georgetown College (460) were the next highest sellers.

Sales of independent college license plates have generated more than half a million dollars in for student scholarships since their introduction in 2002.

Transy wins 4th straight Battle of the Bumpers

Transylvania University has retained its title as the reigning AIKCU “Battle of the Bumpers” champion. This is Transy’s fourth straight title in the annual contest that pits AIKCU’s 20 members against each other to see which college’s supporters can put the most institutionally-branded license plates on Kentucky highways.

Since $10 from the sale of each plate goes back to the school’s general scholarship fund, the Battle of the Bumpers is also a competition to see which institution can raise the most money for students. Transylvania plate sales raised $8,520 for student scholarships in 2011. Overall, sales of Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plates generated more than $45,000 in scholarships last year. The plates have generated more than $300,000 for student scholarships since they began hitting Kentucky highways in 2002.

“We’re very proud of the commitment that Transylvania and our other members have made to promoting their license plates,” said Gary S. Cox, AIKCU President. “The pride people show by displaying these plates is an extension of the institutions’ quality and dedication to supporting students.”

Transylvania has implemented a number of promotional strategies to bolster their plate sales, including sending license plate birthday cards to alumni reminding them to purchase or renew their plates.

Centre College, the only other institution to hold the Battle of the Bumpers title, was the runner-up for the fourth consecutive year. Georgetown College placed third.

Plates for all 20 AIKCU institutions are available to Kentucky residents through local county clerks offices. Plates cost $44 upon initial issue and $31 for renewals, including the $10 that goes to the campus to support student scholarships.
