Kentucky has a tremendous need for qualified math and science teachers like Kendra Smith, a 2004 Pikeville College graduate. She obtained a chemistry degree and a secondary education degree from Pikeville.

Now a chemistry teacher at Lexington’s Dunbar High School, Kendra hopes to influence her students in the same way that her Pikeville professors influenced her:

A Pikeville College education can definitely take you anywhere. It took me from a small town to one of the best high schools in Kentucky. My degrees are very unique. I actually have a degree in secondary education and a full chemistry degree. Three of my professors greatly influenced my success as a teacher. They served as advisors and advocates. They also shared a wealth of knowledge and challenged me to think outside the box. Because of them, I can now challenge my students to do the same.
