Bob Johnston - COO/VP for Business Services


bob-johnston.jpgBob’s responsibilities at AIKCU include the management of daily operations as the Chief Operating Officer and the development of campus collaborative activities in the area of Business Services. He recently helped campuses broker purchasing contracts with an online text book seller, a national office products chain, a nationwide gasoline and car maintenance reseller, a purchasing card vendor, and a property and casualty insurer. He has worked extensively with campus representatives in the establishment of the AIKCU Health Insurance Benefit Trust and on a promising student health insurance program. Bob also manages AIKCU’s daily operations and facilities in his role as AIKCU’s Chief Operating Officer.Bob joined AIKCU after a career in Kentucky state government, where he most recently served as the Public Service Commission’s first Director of Consumer Services. Prior to his fourteen year stint at the PSC, Bob spent fifteen years as the Energy Cabinet’s Director of Energy Conservation.

When not working for AIKCU’s members, Bob serves as President of the 110 member Frankfort Rotary Club, volunteers for Junior Achievement at Franklin County High School and is active in a number of local and national organizations. He is frequently called upon by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioner’s Consumer Affairs Committee to lead training sessions for state Consumer Affairs representatives across the country.

Bob and his wife Gayla live in Frankfort. They are both western Kentucky natives and graduated from Murray State University. Gayla is a fifth grade teacher at the new Frankfort Christian Academy. They have two grown sons who are both products of independent higher education.
