Nationwide, students who borrowed to finance their education graduated with an average of $26,600 in student loans. The picture is a little bit better for students graduating from Kentucky’s public universities and nonprofit, private colleges universities. Graduates of Kentucky’s public universities had an average debt of $24,111 in 2011. While higher percentages of students attending private colleges borrowed for college, their average debt was actually lower at $22,012.
