MIDWAY, Ky. – The Midway College community received exciting news this week from its Board of Trustees. After conducting a national search over the past six months, the Board has selected Dr. John P. Marsden to serve as the tenth president of the institution.

Dr. Marsden was one of three finalists that visited campus in October and met with members of the board of trustees, staff, faculty, students, alumni and community members. He and his wife Margaret and son will be relocating from Wilson, North Carolina, where he currently serves as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Barton College. Dr. Marsden will officially begin his tenure February 1, 2013.

“The entire College participated in the selection process of Dr. Marsden and the excitement is growing for him to join our campus community,” said Donna Moore, Board Member and Chairperson of the Search Committee. “We (the Board) truly believe his experience, academic background and personality are a great match for Midway College and that he will build on our current momentum and help develop and implement a long term strategic plan for the College.”

Dr. John P. Marsden will be officially welcomed as the next President of Midway College on Tuesday, December 4.

“It is an honor to be selected as the next President of Midway College and to join an institution with a strong commitment to women’s undergraduate education as well as coeducational accelerated, graduate, and online programs,” said Marsden. “Midway College has a long tradition of providing students with a professionally-oriented liberal arts education that prepares them for lives of leadership, service, and responsible citizenship. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to collaboratively build a vision for the College based on its solid foundation.”

Dr. Marsden earned his undergraduate degree in Architecture with a minor in Industrial Management at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his masters in Architecture and Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Arizona and he earned his Ph.D. with a major in Environment and Behavior and a minor in Gerontology from the University of Michigan.
