Kentucky Private College Week: June 12-16
May 17th, 2006Kentucky Private College Week will be held June 12-16, 2006, on the campuses of 20 nonprofit, independent colleges and universities across Kentucky. Campus tours and information sessions at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m (local time) each day make it easy for students to “try on” a variety of campuses and “find the right fit.” Students can find out more and register by visiting www.kentuckyprivatecollegeweek.org.
Kentucky’s independent colleges and universities offer all the benefits of larger campuses – a wide variety of degree programs, extensive extracurricular activities, championship athletics, great preparation for employment or graduate school – with things that are hard to find at larger institutions. Kentucky’s independents offer small classes, personal attention from outstanding faculty, extensive opportunities for study abroad, safe campus communities, an emphasis on leadership and service opportunities, and well-developed internship and career development programs. The combination of the personalized academic experience and the opportunities for participation and leadership in a wide variety of activities help students succeed in the classroom and beyond. All of this is affordable and within reach, with average tuitions 35 percent lower than national private college averages and more than 95 percent of entering students receiving some form of financial aid.
Private College Week makes it easy for students and their families to get out and see for themselves what Kentucky’s private campuses can offer. As Lisa Carroll, the mother of a Christian Academy of Louisville senior who visited several campuses during last year’s event, explains, “[Private College Week] gave us a clear view of each campus over a short period so we were able to compare the various campuses easily.” Carroll recommends that any student thinking about college take advantage of Private College Week to “visit as many as possible!”
Choosing a college is an important decision, and there’s never a one size fits all solution. Kentucky Private College Week is a relaxed, no pressure time for prospective students and families to explore Kentucky’s private colleges and universities. Students can save time and money by visiting two schools per day and up to ten during the week. Students automatically receive application fee waivers for each campus they visit and can qualify for prize drawings by visiting three or more campuses during the week.
Registration is recommended but not required to participate in Private College Week activities. Visit www.kentuckyprivatecollegeweek.org to learn more and register, or call the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities at (502) 695-5007.
